Freshly baked bread enjoyed by Zion
Bread was a food made from baking wheat. It was very rarely enjoyed in the Real World and was only ever made from the stockpiled grain grown by Geoffrey during the early years of the sixth Zion. While it was a common food in the Matrix, Geoffrey was unable to remember how it tasted like while back in the Real World and theorized that the Machines lacked the data to truly replicate the taste of real bread.
History[]
Wheat, being a sun-loving plant, had all but grown extinct until it was grown back by Geoffrey during the early years of Zion. Using genetically-modified seeds recovered from distant structures of the old world, Zion was able to propagate wheat for some years. During this period, bread was abundant in Zion and children were able to frequently enjoy bread. Likewise, Resistance members sent out into missions were served bread upon their return.
Upon the death of Geoffrey and his farmer compatriots during the Battle of the Wheat Fields, the abundant era of wheat promptly ended for Zion. During the time of Morpheus, bread was only regularly enjoyed bi-annually during Bread Feasts.
Then, at the start of the Truce, the Priestesses of Zion's Temple gave out bread during the celebration.
