Martin Koots was an employee of Retool and Die, which was a salvage and repair company. He, along with Gerrard E. Krause and his chihuahuas, were murdered by B1-66ER because it claimed that they were planning to deactivate him. Koot's death became the catalyst of the events that would eventually lead to the Machine War and the creation of the Matrix.
