The Architect is the twenty-ninth scene from The Matrix Reloaded.

Neo and The Architect talk about the Matrix

Description

Neo entered The Architect's Room using the key given to him by The Keymaker. Inside he saw a room full of monitors, all of them showing his face. He found himself standing between two white doors, one on his left another on his right. Before him sat The Architect. He turned his chair around and welcomed Neo. Neo asked who the man was. The Architect then revealed himself as the creator of the Matrix, and informed Neo that he had been anticipating Neo's arrival.

He then says that though a process has changed Neo, he was still human, and hence he may or may not understand everything The Architect will Tell him. He then continues to inform him that while the first question in Neo's mind may be the most pertinent one, it also is the most irrelevant one.

Neo then asks the reason for him being there. The Architect replies that Neo, or The One, is just an anomaly, a product of the equation trying to balance itself out. He considers the creation of The One to be the only flaw in Matrix, which he describes as "a harmony of mathematical precision". He then continues by telling him that though he can't prevent The One from being created, it is not beyond a measure of control. And says that is what has led Neo here.

Neo then replies that The Architect yet hasn't answered his question. The Architect then accepts that what Neo said was true. He finds it interesting that Neo understood that sooner than the Others. The Architect replies that Matrix is older than Neo thinks; counting its age in relative to the appearances of the anomalies, Neo was sixth. This revelation took Neo by surprise. He then concluded that Either no one knew of the existence of the Others or that no one told him.

Dialog

Architect: Hello Neo.
Neo: Who are you?
Architect: I am The Architect. I created the Matrix. I've been waiting for you. You have many questions, and though the process has altered your consciousness, you remain irrevocably human. Ergo, some of my answers you will understand, and some of them you will not. Concordantly, while your first question may be the most pertinent, you may or may not realize it is also the most irrelevant.
Neo: Why am I here?

Architect: Your life is the sum of a remainder of an unbalanced equation inherent to the programming of the Matrix. You are the eventuality of an anomaly, which despite my sincerest efforts, I have been unable to eliminate from what is otherwise a harmony of mathematical precision. While it remains a burden assiduously avoided, it is not unexpected, and thus not beyond a measure of control. Which has led you, inexorably, here.
Neo: You haven't answered my question.
Architect: Quite right. Interesting. That was quicker than the others.
Neo: Others? How many? What others?

Architect: The Matrix is older than you know. I prefer counting from the emergence of one integral anomaly to the emergence of the next. In which case this is the sixth version.
Neo: There are only two possible explanations. Either no one told me, or no one knows.
Architect: Precisely. As you were undoubtedly gathering, the anomaly is systemic, creating fluctuations in even the most simplistic equations.
