A tin hat refers to a paranoid or delusional mindset centered around a belief in some conspiracy theory or another. It is a shortened version of the more common term "tinfoil hat" which refer to the cliché of using such headgear to prevent mind-control or having one's thoughts read.[1]
The Matrix franchise is directly responsible in a number of growing conspiracy theories that mainly focus in the belief that humanity is living in a simulation. One of the simpler hypothesis is that, if we are realistically bound to reach the level of technology able to successfully run a simulated reality, then it is also just as likely that the same level of technology has already been reached and that our reality is already a simulation.[2]
