Trinity's Escape is an event and battle against the Machines and Law Enforcement during an intel-gathering information on The One. It entailed the resistance member Trinity's escape after she was exposed due to Cypher (who was secretly aligning himself with the Machines thanks to learning The One wasn't him) tricking her into using a non-secure line.

Prelude[]

Intel gathering[]

An intelligence gathering mission, helmed by Morpheus, Trinity, and Cypher, occurred at the power plant, with their discovering the identity of The One, an individual named Thomas A. Anderson. Cypher, furious at learning he wasn't the one, secretly threw his lot to the Machines, and attempted to set up his team to die.

Trinity then called Cypher to relieve him of his shift, both acknowledging that it wasn't actually meant to be Trinity who was supposed to relieve him. Cypher, while deliberately using a non-secure line to get Trinity traced and killed, then openly suggested they kill Thomas Anderson, though Trinity reminds Cypher that Morpheus believes him to be The One, with Cypher pointedly asking if she herself believes it. Before she answered, she heard a suspicious click and demanded to know if Cypher was indeed certain that he used a secure line, with Cypher lying and stating he made sure he did. Trinity, not willing to take any chances, hung up.

The Escape[]

No, lieutenant. Your men are already dead

― Agent Smith[src]

A police lieutenant was given orders by Agents Smith, Brown and Jones to not send his men to arrest Trinity until after the agents arrived. However, the lieutenant, unconcerned with "juris-my-dick-tion" from the Agents, disobeyed orders and sent two police units to capture her prior to their arrival, believing her to merely be a little girl.

The units then arrived at the place Trinity's call was traced: Room 303 at the abandoned Heart O' The City Hotel. They then entered the room and tried to arrest her, with her playing along by raising her hands in apparent surrender.

Outside the hotel, the agents arrived to discover the police presence as well as sensing the police in the building. Smith then called over the lieutenant and reminded him that he gave specific orders and that the orders were meant for the police's protection. He then departed, although not before correcting the lieutenant's arrogant claim that the two units he sent up succeeded in retrieving her by bluntly telling him that the two units he sent up "are already dead."

The police then attempt to arrest Trinity, only for her to break the arresting policeman's arm, smash his face in, and then kick him several feet away into a wall. She then proceeded to kick a chair into the second policeman with enough force to send him flying. The third policeman then tries to shoot her, only for her to run across the wall and then use him as a human shield to take down the fourth policeman in a firefight before promptly disabling him with a spinning kick. Although victorious, she nevertheless realized she had been compromised and needed to escape. As the agents arrive, she then contacts Morpheus and tries to inform him about the line being traced. Morpheus then reveals more bad news in an already bad situation: The Hardline for the Hotel had already been cut, meaning she can't jack out at the location, and to make matters worse, they've even dispatched agents. However, Morpheus reveals there is a hardline to jack out from at Wells and Lake, with Trinity confirming that she could make it.

She then attempts to exit, only to encounter Agent Brown, and force her to flee. She then exits only to discover Smith waiting at the bottom of the fire escape, forcing her to climb further up the fire escape while Agent Smith uses his earpiece to track her and deduce her destination while Brown as well as several more policemen continued their pursuit on the rooftops. She eventually managed to jump across a very wide gape between two buildings, and while she was able to prevent the policemen from pursuing her, Agent Brown ended up making the same jump with the police witnessing this in disbelief. She eventually managed to do a torpedo dive at a shanty, evading Brown altogether, although suffering a slight wound to her temple due to having to crash through a window and doing a rolling dive. She paused and braced herself for the possibility of Brown pursuing her through the building, though she eventually thought better of it and rushed to the phone booth she was looking for.

Unfortunately, a passing garbage truck ended up hijacked by Agent Smith and turned around to face the booth just as it started ringing, forcing Trinity to race the garbage truck to the booth, successfully jacking out at the last second before the booth was totaled by the garbage truck crashing into both it and the wall right behind it.

Aftermath[]

Despite their failure to apprehend Trinity, the agents nevertheless learned of the Resistance targeting Thomas Anderson from the traced call, and intended to locate him.

Later, while trying to escape from the Matrix, Neo attempted to use the Room 303 exit. Trinity's Escape allowed Agent Smith to predict where he was going and ambush him. After destroying Smith, Neo was able to use the exit to escape from the Matrix just in the nick of time.

Smith, or rather, Bane would later reference Smith's earlier failure to kill Trinity both during this situation and a later event when ranting about her tendency to evade his attempts at killing her at the last second.

Sixty years after the end of the Machine War, Bugs visits a Modal version of Trinity's Escape that was created by Neo himself who had no memories. In the Modal version, Smith is replaced by a program version of Morpheus while Agent Brown is replaced by Agent White. The Modal is later deleted by the Analyst following the escape of Bugs and Morpheus from it.
